Circa 1910 stopwatch were issued by USLHS, to each of the 26 Supervisors in 13 Lighthouse Districts, to time light house lens rotation.
Here we have a very rare vintage circa 1910 stopwatch used by the USLHS, to time light house lens rotation. These timepieces were issued only, to twenty-six lighthouse supervisors. Yes, only one of these were issued by USLHS, to each of the 26 Supervisors in 13 Lighthouse Districts, and are very rare as, fewer have survived. This piece is manufactured by the Swiss, Berna Watch Company, who supplied to the US Government as well as won gold medal awards during the 1900's.
The back of the case bears the engraved letters U.S.L.H.S., and the interior case has a serial number. The timepiece has a porcelain dial marked "Berna" and a silver-plated case. the movement is a seven jewel movement and marked 905969 on inside case lid. The Light House Service merged with the US Coast Guard in 1939.
This watch sat in the previous owners’ drawer for many years and could use an overhaul service. This is a rare opportunity for the collector of U. S. Light House items.
